Sacred Heart Scores in Final Minute of Overtime to Upend Hockey

Braden Tuck scored with 28 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Sacred Heart to a 3-2 victory over Canisius in Atlantic Hockey Association action Sunday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Tuck's overtime tally capped a comeback for the Pioneers that saw them rally from a 2-0 deficit midway through the contest to earn the win. Tim Clifton and Hunter Sansbury scored for the Pioneers (16-14-2, 14-8-2 AHA) in regulation while Luke Lush made 23 saves in goal for the visitors.

Seniors Markus Boguslavsky and Ryan Miotto scored for the Golden Griffins (13-16-3, 11-10-3 AHA). Senior netminder John Hawthorne finished with a season-high 36 saves between the pipes for Canisius.

In the final minute of overtime, Sanbury connected with an unmarked Tuck on a stretch pass at the Canisius blueline. Tuck raced in and deked to his forehand as he attempted to stuff the puck past the left leg of Hawthorne. Hawthorne made the initial save, but during the ensuing goalmouth scramble, it appeared that his left leg crossed the goal line with the puck underneath it, causing the officials to signal a good goal.

Earlier in the game, Boguslavsky got the Griffs on the board for the second consecutive contest as he struck at the 8:40 mark of the first period, chipping home freshman Stefano Bottini's centering feed past the blocker of Lush to give Canisius a 1-0 lead.
Miotto doubled the Canisius advantage to 2-0 near the midway point of the contest, sliding senior Keaton Mastrodonato's centering feed under the pads of Lush for his 11th goal of the campaign. Clifton got the Pioneers on the board a little more than six minutes later when he jammed home a loose puck from just in front of the Canisius goal to make it a 2-1 game.

Sanbury tied the game at the 6:26 mark of the third during 4-on-4 action, firing a wrist shot from right face-off circle that beat Hawthorne to the blocker side, knotting the score at 2-all and setting the stage for Tuck's overtime winner.
