Carter Jackson Signs NLI to Join Men’s Basketball Program

Canisius head men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon announced Monday that Carter Jackson, a versatile 6-foot-3 wing from Garfield Heights, Ohio, has signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Golden Griffins for the 2024-25 season.

Jackson, who is currently in his senior year at Garfield Heights High School, was good for 7.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game in 2022-23 while playing at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland. As a junior on that Wildcats team, Jackson helped Saint Ignatius to an overall record of 19-8 and an appearance in the Ohio High School Athletic Association regional semifinals.

"Carter is a guard with great size and he is really tough," Witherspoon said. "It is important to note that he comes from a good high school and he has received really good coaching, so he understands and appreciates the game of basketball and he understands what it takes to compete at the Division I level. We are excited to add a young man of his caliber to our program."

"I chose Canisius because coach Witherspoon and his staff gave me a chance when everyone else doubted me," Jackson said. "They believe in me, and that means a lot. I am very excited and I cannot wait to get to Buffalo and the Canisius campus and start my journey as a Division I basketball player."

Canisius (1-1) will return to action on Wednesday (Nov. 15) when the team travels to play at Cleveland State. Tip-off in Cleveland, Ohio is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The audio call can be found on GoGriffs.com and the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network, with the M&T Bank Pregame Show starting at 6:40 p.m. The Griffs are coming off a 70-67 road win at St. Bonaventure on Nov. 11, the Blue and Gold's third win over their longtime rivals in the last four meetings, dating back to the 2019-20 season.
