Sharkey Selected by Bandits in NLL Entry Draft

Former Canisius defenseman Ryan Sharkey was selected in the fourth round (73rd overall) by the Buffalo Bandits as the National Lacrosse League held its 2022 Entry Draft Saturday at The Carlu in downtown Toronto.

With his selection, Sharkey becomes the 15th player in program history to be selected in the NLL Entry Draft and the sixth under head coach Mark Miyashita. He is also the fourth Golden Griffin to be selected in the last three entry drafts, joining former teammates Mathieu Boissonneault, Daniel Balawejder and Carter Stefaniak, who were all selected during the 2020 edition of the draft.

A native of Yonkers, N.Y., Sharkey appeared in 39 games during his four-year career at Canisius, making 26 starts. A two-time All-MAAC selection, he recorded 70 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers during his career, leading the squad in caused turnovers during his sophomore and junior campaigns.

As a senior, Sharkey was one of five players to start all 14 games for the Griffs. The All-MAAC First Team selection ranked third on the team with 28 ground balls and also recorded seven caused turnovers. Sharkey finished with five or more ground balls on three occasions during the 2022 campaign and posted a season-high three caused turnovers in a conference matchup with Monmouth. He also recorded his first career point with an assist versus Cleveland State.

The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is North America's premier professional lacrosse league. Founded in 1986, the NLL ranks third in average attendance for pro indoor sports worldwide, behind only the NHL and NBA.
