Fonoti Pushes Women’s Soccer Past Cleveland State

Junior Tiani Fonoti tallied the game's lone goal in the 66th minute to lift Canisius to a 1-0 victory against Cleveland State in collegiate women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

The win moved the Golden Griffins to 2-2-3 on the campaign while the Vikings fell to 3-2-2.

From the opening whistle, Canisius controlled possession for the majority of the contest and were finally able to capitalize in the 66th minute.

Sophomore Emma Oliphant drove down the left side of the field, passing the ball to a waiting Fonoti in the center of the pitch. Fonoti then drilled home a shot into the top right corner of the net, past the diving Cleveland State keeper, Liv Fain.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Spencer made Fonoti's tally stand, registering one save to record her second clean sheet of the season for the Griffs.
