Men’s Soccer Falls to Duquesne in Home Opener

Tate Mohney scored in the 62nd minute to give Duquesne the 1-0 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

The visiting Dukes moved to 2-0-0 on the campaign while the Golden Griffins, backed by an eight save effort from graduate keeper
William Howard, slipped to 0-2-0 on the young season.

In Canisius' home opener, the pair of teams played scoreless ball for over 60 minutes before Duquesne opened the scoring.

Following a ball that was played into the box, Mohney collected a Canisius clearing attempt and put a shot on net. The ball deflected off a Griffs defender and into the back of the goal, giving the Dukes the lead.

Game Notes
• Freshmen Daniel Longo, Josh Miller and Michael Switala all made their first collegiate starts on Sunday.
• Howard made eight saves in the match, the sixth time in his career with Canisius he has made at least eight stops.
• Sophomore Kodie Sarkodie played the full time against the Dukes. He is the lone position player to appear in all 90 minutes in both contests this season.
