Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tanke Earns First Victory as Men’s Soccer Defeats Stonehill

Senior Julius Schoner's penalty kick goal in the 66th minute helped propel Canisius to a 1-0 win over Stonehill in collegiate men's soccer action Friday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

The win, which was head coach Michael Tanke's first as a Division I head coach, moved the Golden Griffins to 1-2-0 on the campaign while the Skyhawks fell to 0-2-0.

Graduate keeper William Howard turned aside seven Stonehill shots in the shutout for the Griffs.

The two teams played a scoreless match for over 60 minutes before a Skyhawks' player committed a foul in the box, giving Canisius the penalty kick opportunity.

Schoner placed the ball in the bottom right corner of the net, deking out Stonehill keeper Carlos Dias Neto for his fourth collegiate goal.

Game Notes
• Sophomore Kodie Sarkodie once again played the full time. Second year forward Dylan Rice and senior defenders Ryan Dagelman and Inder Thind also appeared in all 90 minutes of the match.
• Howard's seven saves gives him 21 through the first three matches.
• The goal was Schoner's first collegiate attempt at a penalty kick.
