Women’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw Against St. Francis Brooklyn

Junior forward Tiani Fonoti scored in the 80th minute and sophomore keeper Jordan Spencer made four saves to pace Canisius in a 1-1 draw against St. Francis Brooklyn in collegiate women's soccer action Thursday at the Demske Sports Complex.

In the season opener for both programs, the teams played scoreless soccer for nearly 60 minutes before Terrier midfielder Jess Rodriguez opened the scoring at the 55:15 mark, sneaking a shot from the right side past Spencer into the left-hand panel of the goal to give the St. Francis Brooklyn the 1-0 lead.

Fonoti was able to draw the Golden Griffins level in the 80th minute as she collected a flick from sophomore Madeline Weltin in the middle of the field and raced down the right side before placing a shot off the left post and in from 12 yards out to knot the score at 1-1.

Fonoti had the best chance to break the deadlock before the end of regulation, working her way deep into the Terrier end of the field during final minute of regulation, but St. Francis Brooklyn keeper Kili Keshwar turned aside her chance from just off the right post to keep the game tied.
