Outdoor Track Breaks Two School Records at ECAC/IC4A Championships

The Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams competed in the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday and Sunday at Zable Stadium at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Fifth year Leah Wardner and the men's 4x800 relay team of sophomores Ronan McDonald and Kevin Board, senior Richard Moore and grad student Turner Dirrigl established program records to close out the season for the Golden Griffins.
 
On Saturday, Wardner ran the 800 in 2:17.54 to break the previous school record of 2:18.39 from 1998. Junior Andrew Perreault competed in the men's 3000m steeplechase, crossing the finish line with a time of 9:32.00.
 
Senior Michael Peppy recorded a time of 14:49.44 in the men's 5000-meter run, while fellow senior Libby Benzer posted a seventh-place finish in the women's 5000 with her time of 17:17.21. Benzer earned All-East recognition for her performance. Junior Marissa Silba also ran in the 5000, finishing in 17:33.71 and moving up to fourth all-time in program history.
 
Junior Tom Appenheimer came in fifth place in the 10000, posting a time of 30:41.97 to earn All-East honors.
 
On Sunday, sophomore Maura Jordan ran the 400 in 59.15 and the 200 in 27.14. Sophomore Katie Gawronski competed in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:07.50.  
 
The men's 4x800 relay team broke the previous school record with its time of 7:39.87. The women's 4x800 grouping of Wardner, sophomore Jules Jones, Silba and Benzer closed out the season for the Griffs, registering a time of 9:44.30 and taking home All-East honors.
