Softball to Play Siena in MAAC Championship Game

1. First Pitch
The No. 1 seed Canisius softball team will face No. 3 seed Siena Saturday in the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Softball Championship game.

First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.

2. Comeback Kids
For the second straight year, the Griffs scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off victory in postseason play. Canisius earned its 3-2 win over Fairfield via the walk-off on May 14, 2021.

Down a run Friday after yielding a solo home run to Jamie Sheeran in the top of the seventh, Canisius mounted its comeback with two outs in the inning.
 
Junior Sophia Recrosio beat out an infield single to get the rally started. Following a pair of walks to load the bases, graduate student Erin Hufford slapped an infield single of her own to tie the contest at one. The hit was Hufford's 197th career knock, giving her sole possession of fifth all-time in program history.
 
Sophomore Christie McGee-Ross served the 1-1 pitch from Iona pitcher Kara Zazzaro through the left side of the diving Gaels' infield to give the Griffs the 2-1 win, advancing them to the Championship game for the second consecutive year.
 
3. MAAC Championship
Canisius is looking to earn its 13th MAAC Softball Championship in program history. This would be the first since the 2009 campaign, when the Griffs took down Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara to advance to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship.
