Women's Lacrosse Moves to 3-1 in MAAC Play with Win Over Siena

Game Recap
Senior Skylar McArthur tallied a career-high six goals and junior Paige Stachura recorded a hat trick to pace Canisius in a 14-10 win over Siena in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.

With the victory, the Golden Griffins improved to 8-3 on the year and 3-1 in conference play as the Saints fell to 6-7 and 2-2 in the MAAC.

Sophomore Riley Davis extended her scoring streak to six games with two goals in the contest, while seniors Megan Hoffman and Katie Smolensky and junior Kaitlyn Salce tallied a goal apiece.

The Griffs held an early 2-0 advantage midway through the first quarter before Hoffman snuck through three defenders and ripped a shot on net to add to the Canisius lead.

Siena scored its first of the day late in the opening frame, but the Griffs would answer right back as Salce fired a shot into the top corner of the goal to stun Siena goalkeeper Sabrina Krasner.

The Saints responded with a goal to open the second-quarter scoring before the Griffs went on a three-goal run with back-to-back goals from Stachura and a tally from McArthur to hold a 9-2 lead at halftime.

Canisius continued its scoring streak with three more goals in the third frame, including a highlight-reel goal from Smolensky, who put home a no-look, over-the-shoulder shot off of a rebound in front of the net. Under a minute later, Smolensky found Davis cutting in to extend the lead to 12-2 and force a Siena timeout.

Following the timeout, the Saints went on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit and stage a comeback, but back-to-back tallies from McArthur kept the Griffs out in front to secure the victory.

Game Notes
• Wednesday's contest served as the 28th meeting between the Griffs and the Saints. Canisius now holds a 17-11 advantage in the all-time series.
• With the victory, Canisius is 3-1 in conference play for the first time since 2018.
• Davis put the Griffs on the board first in the opening quarter, marking the second game in a row that the sophomore opened the scoring and the eighth time this season that Canisius has scored first.
• McArthur recorded a multi-goal game for the sixth contest in a row, while Stachura registered her fifth multi-goal performance in a row. The two have combined to score 32 goals through four conference games.
• With six goals in Wednesday's contest, McArthur tallied five or more goals in a game for the fourth time this season. She also tied Stachura with a team-leading 31 goals in 2022.
• Sophomore Caroline Netti saw her 10-game scoring streak come to an end as the Saints held her off the scoresheet for the first time this season.
