FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. First Pitch
The Canisius softball team welcomes MAAC foes Manhattan and Saint Peter's to Western New York for a pair of conference doubleheaders on April 30 and May 1.

First pitch of the opening games is slated for noon and will be broadcasted on ESPN3.

2. A Rematch of the 2021 MAAC Championship
Saturday's doubleheader matchup will feature a rematch of the 2021 MAAC Softball Championship game.

Canisius took three of the four contests during the pandemic-shortened season against Manhattan April 2-3 before the Jaspers defeated the Griffs, 6-3, to claim the conference championship.

Dating back to 2018, Canisius has won six of the last eight regular season contests against Manhattan.

3. It's Been A While
Saint Peter's was the lone opponent Canisius was not slated to play during the 2021 pandemic-shortened season.

The last time the two teams played one another was during the 2019 campaign, when the programs split a doubleheader at the Demske Sports Complex on April 28.

The Griffs won the first game, 4-1, before the visiting Peacocks took game two, 7-4.

4. A Hot Month in the Circle
The Canisius pitching staff has been nearly lights out in the circle during the month of April.

In the 14-win month, the hurlers have pitched to a 2.31 ERA in 133.1 innings, striking out 133 batters.

The staff has allowed three or fewer runs in 14 games this month while shutting out opponents four times.

The Griffs have also recorded 10 games where pitchers have struck out eight or more batters, including six contests with 10 or more punch outs.

5. Senior Day
Canisius concludes the 2022 regular season with a doubleheader against Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara on May 8.

Prior to the game, the senior and graduate classes will be honored in a pregame ceremony.

First pitch from the Demske Sports Complex is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
