Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Earns Split on Saturday

After dropping the morning contest to Lehigh 5-2, Canisius picked up an 11-7 victory in extra innings over St. Thomas Saturday in collegiate softball action at the USF Softball Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

With the split, the Golden Griffins move to 9-8 on the year while Lehigh and St. Thomas sit at 6-11 and 3-19, respectively.

Game 1 Recap

Lehigh's offense came out of the gates hot as the Mountain Hawks plated three runs in the top of the first.
A one-out double by Jaelynn Chesson plated the first run for Lehigh and a two-out knock off the bat of Karsen
O'Rourke gave the Mountain Hawks an early advantage.

Lehigh added to its lead in the next frame when Addie Kittel led off the inning with a home run.

Canisius was able to record a hit in four of the five innings to begin the contest, but could not put anything together to drive in a run until the sixth.

With the bases loaded and one out, junior
Sophia Recrosio grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing graduate student Lindsi Dennis to score after she led off the frame by reaching base via a fielding error.

The Griffs surrendered their second lead-off homer of the day in the seventh when Amanda Greaney took sophomore hurler
Megan Giese deep.

Down three going into the bottom of seventh, Canisius had the bases loaded with two outs.

A wild pitch from Lehigh southpaw Katelyn Young moved the runners up, allowing freshman
Emily Ilano to score.
Despite the pair of base runners in scoring position, the Griffs were unable to plate any more runs, as Young got sophomore Sydney Costan to fly out to end the contest, effectively ending the threat.

Giese made her eighth start of the season in the circle for Canisius, fanning five batters across the seven innings of work.

Game 2 Recap
Canisius earned the victory in a back and forth affair, scoring five extra-innings runs.

Fazzolari gave the Griffs an early 3-0 lead with her sixth home run of the season, a three run blast.

St. Thomas later returned the favor with a three spot of their own in the home half of the third, thanks for a three run homer off the bat of Cassidy Carby.

Canisius and St. Thomas traded a trio of runs in the fifth before each plating a run in the eighth.

The Griffs opened the game up in the ninth, scoring four runs off of defensive miscues by the Bobcats.

Canisius saw three pitchers appear in the circle during the game.

Redshirt senior
Emily Nicosia tossed three innings in the start, giving up four runs on six hits before handing the ball off to senior Alexis Churchill.

Giese entered the game in the sixth, shutting down the St. Thomas offense.

The righty allowed just one hit and a free pass in her third victory of the season, a 3.2 inning appearance.

Game Notes
