Manhattan’s Offense Powers Past Women’s Basketball

Manhattan shot 55 percent from the floor as four Jaspers recorded a double-digit point total, leading to an 86-62 victory over Canisius in MAAC women's basketball action from Draddy Gymnasium on Thursday evening.
 
Courtney Warley paced the Jaspers' high-powered offense, scoring 19 points with eight rebounds. Brazil Harvey-Carr added 18 points, while Dee Dee Davis chipped in 16 points and Jade Blagrove had 12 points and eight rebounds.
 
Sophomore Dani Haskell scored 19 of her game-high 21 points in the second half. Haskell also added five assists to her stat line. Freshman Athina Lexa netted 14 points while junior Shaunae Brown and senior Erika Joseph chipped in 10 points apiece for the Golden Griffins (4-21, 2-14 MAAC).
 
GAME RECAP
Joseph opened the scoring with a 3-pointer before a 13-3 run gave Manhattan a seven-point lead four minutes into the contest. The Jaspers then utilized a 14-2 spurt for 7:31 of game time, opening a 29-12 lead with 7:08 left in the first half.
 
Manhattan closed the first half on a 7-2 run, taking a 44-25 advantage into halftime.
 
Canisius opened the first 2:03 of the second half on a 10-2 run, trimming Manhattan's lead to 46-35. Haskell netted a pair of 3-pointers during the stretch before Manhattan responded with a 13-4 stretch to open a 20-point lead, 59-39.
 
The Jaspers closed out the remaining 7:11 of the contest on a 17-8 run to solidify the victory.

Game Notes
• Thursday marked the 68th all-time meeting between the Golden Griffins and Jaspers. Manhattan has won its last five against Canisius, who now leads the series 35-33.
• Canisius made 13 3-pointers in the contest, marking the seventh time this season that the Griffs have had a double-digit 3-point total. The seven such games are tied for the program record, initially set during the 2008-09 season.
• Haskell's 21 points marked her fifth 20-point game of the season. Her 353 points this season now rank as the 10th-most by a sophomore in Canisius' Division I era.
• Freshman Rhay Porter recorded two blocks in the contest, her 10th multi-block performance of the season. It is the most games with multiple rejections since Crystal Porter also had 10 during the 2014-15 season.
• With the pair of blocks, Porter now has 35 rejections on the year, the sixth-most in Canisius' Division I era.

Canisius continues its four-game road trip Saturday when it heads to Lawrenceville, N.J., to face Rider. Tipoff from Alumni Gym between the Griffs and Broncs is slated for 2 p.m. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN3.
