Softball Announces 2023 Season Schedule

Canisius softball head coach Kim Griffin announced the schedule for the 44th season in program history on Friday, a 49-game slate that features 21 road games to begin the campaign, highlighted by three tournaments in the Carolinas.

The Golden Griffins open the 2023 season in the Palmetto State at the Cougar Classic when it faces host College of Charleston, Boston University and Tennessee Tech. Canisius will remain in Charleston to play a doubleheader against the Cougars on Feb. 21.

The Blue and Gold then heads to North Carolina for the Camel Stampede March 3-5. Canisius will square off against North Carolina Central, Furman, Lehigh and host Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C.

The Griffs will play in its final Carolina tournament March 10-12 when they travel to Conway, S.C., to face Ohio State, Houston Christian and Coastal Carolina as part of the Beach Chicken Brawl.

Tournament play wraps up in Pennsylvania when Canisius travels to play Penn State, UMBC, Cornell and Binghamton in State College, Pa., March 17-19 in the Penn State Invitational.

The Griffs return to Western New York to square off against regional foe Syracuse with a doubleheader on March 22 in its home opener before traveling to face crosstown rival Buffalo on March 29 in another non-conference twinbill.

The reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champions will look to defend their title beginning April 1 against Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn., before traveling to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face Marist April 2.

A pair of midweek contests against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure on April 5 (home) and 11 (away) wrap up the Griffs' non-conference slate.

The Griffs' will play host to Siena, Fairfield and Iona at home while facing conference rivals Saint Peter's, Manhattan and Niagara on the road.

Canisius' regular season concludes at the Demske Sports Complex with a pair of contests against Rider on May 5 and conference newcomer Mount St. Mary's on May 6.

The 2023 MAAC Softball Championship will once again be held at the highest seed's home site, May 10-13. The winner of the MAAC Softball Championship tournament will earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division I Softball Championship.

2023 Schedule Notes
  • Canisius will open conference play against Quinnipiac, followed by Marist, for the second straight year. This will also be the third occurance in the last five seasons in which there have been conference games played.
  • The Griffs will begin conference play on the road for the fifth time in the last six seasons, dating back to 2017.
