Seniors Pace Hockey in 5-2 Victory Versus AIC

Members of the senior class scored all five goals to lead Canisius to a 5-2 victory over AIC in Atlantic Hockey Association action Friday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Senior Keaton Mastrodonato scored twice while Markus Boguslavsky, Simon Gravel and Ryan Miotto also found the back of the net for the Golden Griffins (3-8-1, 1-3-1 AHA). Mastrodonato, Boguslavsky and Miotto all added assists to give the three players multiple points for the game. Senior Jacob Barczewski made 27 saves between the pipes.

Oscar Geschwind and Blake Bennett accounted for the two goals for the Yellow Jackets (5-5-2, 3-4-0 AHA). Jarrett Fiske recorded 26 saves in goal for the visitors.

Following a scoreless first period, Gravel gave Canisius a 1-0 lead at the 4:56 mark of the second period when he finished off a rush with a backhanded effort that beat Fiske to the blocker side for his first of the campaign.

Boguslavsky doubled the Griffs advantage to 2-0 less than five minutes after Gravel's opener as he stuffed home his own rebound from the top of the crease for his first in a Canisius uniform.

Geschwind got the Yellow Jackets on the board at the 2:27 mark of the third period with a power-play goal, sliding a loose puck under Barczewski to make it a 2-1 contest.

The teams traded goals just 81 seconds apart during the later stages of the third period. Miotto gave Canisius a 3-1 lead with 15:28 elapsed in the third, redirecting Mastrodonato's centering feed over the glove of Fiske and under the crossbar for his fifth goal of the campaign.

Bennett brought AIC back within one less than 90 seconds later, flipping a backhand over the glove of Barczewski for his team-leading ninth goal of the season to make it a 3-2 game.

Mastrodonato kept the Yellow Jackets from getting any closer, however, netting a pair of empty-net goals during the final two minutes of regulation to determine the final margin.
