Oliphant, Jones Pace Women’s Soccer in 3-0 Victory Versus Saint Peter’s

Sophomore Emma Oliphant scored the first two goals of her collegiate career and added an assist to lead Canisius to a 3-0 victory over Saint Peter's in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Junior Tiani Fonoti also scored for the Golden Griffins (4-3-6, 2-1-3 MAAC), who extended their unbeaten streak to four games with the victory (1-0-3). Junior Jessica Jones posted her third straight shutout for Canisius as she finished with three saves.

Keeper Annabelle Adams finished with four saves in goal for the Peacocks (3-11-0, 2-4-0 MAAC).

Oliphant staked Canisius to a 1-0 lead at the 25:11 mark of the contest, knocking home a rebound after freshman Mia Iacona's initial attempt was stopped Adams for her first collegiate tally.

Fonoti doubled the Griffs lead to 2-0 less than three minutes into the second half as she put home a loose ball after Oliphant's free kick from the left side was turned aside by Adams.

Oliphant capped off her career day in the 59th minute, intercepting a Peacocks pass and taking a couple of dribbles before ripping a shot from 22 yards out that beat Adams and snuck inside the left post to close out the scoring.
