Women’s Soccer Finishes Regular Season with Draw at Delaware State

Junior Sophie Chelini scored her first goal of the season and sophomore Jordan Spencer made two saves to pace Canisius in a 1-1 draw at Delaware State in collegiate women's soccer action Wednesday at Drass Field in Dover, Del.

Chelini found the back of the net for the Golden Griffins (5-4-9) in the 55th minute while Gabriella Cabrera countered a little more than 10 minutes later for the Hornets (2-14-2). Ashley Maribo made seven saves in goal for Delaware State.

Following a scoreless first half, Chelini got Canisius on the board in the 55th minute, redirecting freshman Skylar Cornell's free kick into the Hornets' goal from close range to give the Griffs the lead.

Cabrera brought Delaware State level in the 67th minute when she headed home Thalia Johnson's corner kick to knot the score at 1-all.

Senior Jen Romero had the best opportunity to break the deadlock in the final minutes, but her free kick from outside the box was turned aside by Maribo.
