Hockey Shutout as Miami Completes Weekend Sweep

Hockey Shutout as Miami Completes Weekend Sweep

Brothers Ryan and Red Savage accounted for both goals and Ludvig Persson stopped all 25 shots he faced as Miami University posted a 2-0 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's ice hockey action Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Ryan Savage netted a power-play goal in the first and Red Savage put the game out of reach with an empty-net tally in the final minute of the third as the Redhawks (4-1-1) completed a sweep of the weekend non-conference series with Saturday's victory.

Senior goaltender Jacob Barczewski gave the host Golden Griffins (2-5-0) a chance, turning aside 26 of the 27 shots he faced.

Savage opened up the scoring at the 6:38 mark of the first period with a power-play goal as he jammed home his own rebound for his second goal of the series.

Canisius had its best scoring opportunity of the second period midway through the middle frame when junior Cooper Haar rang a wrist shot off the crossbar on the rush.

Senior Ryan Miotto also found the post early in the third period when he danced around a Redhawks defender and beat Persson with a shot to the blocker side, but the puck hit the right post and stayed out.

Persson made his best save of the contest with just over a minute remaining in the game as he slide across and made a pad save on an attempt from junior defenseman Jackson Decker to keep the Griffs off the scoreboard.

Red Savage dashed any comeback hopes the final minute of regulation when he blocked a point shot and chased down the loose puck in the neutral zone before depositing into the empty Canisius cage to determine the final margin
