Late Goal Against Results in Draw for Men's Soccer

In a game of back and forths, Nathaniel David scored with 1:04 left in the match to give Iona the equalizer in a 3-3 draw against Canisius Wednesday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Gaels moved to 3-3-3 (2-0-2 MAAC) on the campaign while the Golden Griffins (1-5-6, 0-2-3 MAAC) earned their third consecutive draw in conference play.

Iona opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the match when Aly Camara used a Thiago Cagna pass to strike one past diving Canisius keeper
William Howard for the early lead.

The Blue and Gold came up with the equalizer 17 minutes later. Sophomore
Reilly Boyer headed the set piece from senior Jonny Tekie from just inside the back post, tying the contest at one.

Like the first half, Iona opened the scoring to begin the final 45 minutes of play. In the 53rd minute, Pinillos Senen drove the ball on net and picked up his own rebound, putting it past Howard.

Freshman
Josh Miller capitalized on the pass from senior Inder Thind for his first collegiate goal in the 54th minute of the match.

In the center of the box, Miller headed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, past Iona keeper Juan Alfaro Monge.

Canisius took the lead for the first time of the match in the 87th minute when sophomore
Ely Sidibe ripped a shot off the pipe. Senior Julius Schoner gathered the rebound and took a left-footed shot into the right side of the net for the then-lead.

Unfortunately for the Griffs, their lead was short lived as David put a ball past Howard to knot the match for the third and final time.
