Along with Kennedy's 15 points and Shazer's 14, Anabel Ellison and Sam Bailey chipped in with eight points apiece for Marist (6-10, 4-4 MAAC).

GAME RECAP
Shazer and Kennedy combined to score 12 of Marist's 16 first-quarter points as the Red Foxes' defense forced Canisius to shoot 2-of-12 from the field in the game's opening 10 minutes.

Marist opened the contest with a pair of runs, 7-0 and 9-0, sandwiched between a Haskell 3-pointer to jump out to a 16-3 lead. Freshman Athina Lexa ended the 9-0 Marist run with a baseline pull-up jumper with a minute left in the opening quarter.

Canisius opened the second quarter with a 12-4 spurt trimming Marist's lead to three, 20-17. Ten of the Griffs' 12 points in the run came from first-year students, as Lydia Gattozzi scored five points and Cheyenne Stubbs added three points. Lexa and senior Erika Joseph chipped in with two points apiece.

The Griffs cut their deficit to two twice, 22-20 and 25-23, behind 3-pointers from Brown and graduate student Ella Väätänen. A layup by Shazer gave Marist a four-point lead before Lexa went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line to make it a 27-24 score heading into halftime.

Lexa opened the scoring in the second half on a pull-up jumper to trim Canisius' deficit to just one. Marist responded by holding the Griffs scoreless for the next 5:03 and going on an 8-0 run to increase its lead to 35-26.

Brown countered the Marist spurt by making a pair of 3-pointers in 26 seconds to return the game to a one-score contest, 35-32.

A 15-6 run by Marist spanning the third and fourth quarters turned the three-point lead into a 12-point advantage with 7:02 remaining, 50-38.

Marist held Canisius to 2-of-13 shooting from the floor in the final quarter, outscoring the Griffs by a 14-6 margin to take the victory.

Head Coach Sahar Nusseibeh's Postgame Comments
"We fought back after a poor start to the game, which showed some growth. We had a much better third quarter than we have had as of late, which shows growth. We still have a lot more room to grow. Lapses defensively and offensive execution need to improve. We will get back to Main Street and get back to work."

Game Notes
• Monday marked the 58th meeting between Canisius and Marist. The Red Foxes improved to 44-14 all-time against the Griffs, extending its win streak in the series to 12.
• Brown's four 3-pointers tied her career high, initially set at Saint Peter's on Thursday.
• With her two blocks, Rhay Porter is in sole possession of second place for the most blocks by a Canisius freshman in the Division I era. Porter's 23 rejections are five shy of tying Jen Lennox's freshman record. The 23 blocks by Porter are the most by a Canisius player since Lennox swatted 23 shots in 2013-14.
• Porter's two blocks marked her sixth multi-block game of the season, the most by a Canisius player in a campaign since Tiana Pugh also had six during the 2019-20 season.
• Joseph led Canisius with three assists, matching her single-game best for the fifth time in her career. It is the second time she has logged three assists this season (Dec. 15 at UAlbany).
