FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Opening Tip
Canisius opens a three-game road swing Thursday when it faces Saint Peter's at Run Baby Run Arena inside the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J. Tipoff between the Golden Griffins and Peacocks is slated for 7 p.m.

2. Let's Hit the Road
After a five-game homestand, Canisius is playing its first road game since a Dec. 15 contest at UAlbany.

Six of the Griffs' next eight games and 10 of the final 15 regular-season contests will be on the road.

The 36 days between regular-season games away from home in the same season is the second-longest stretch in Canisius program history. Only a 43-day break between road games against Edinboro (Dec. 9, 1980) and St. Bonaventure (Jan. 21, 1981) was longer.

It is the sixth time on record that the Griffs have spent at least 30 days between road games or a neutral site contest.

3. Series History
Canisius and Saint Peter's will meet for the 71st time on Thursday in Jersey City. Both teams have won 35 games in the series, but Canisius has won 28 of the last 40 over the Peacocks.

Despite Canisius also winning 13 of the last 18, Saint Peter's and the Griffs have split the last 10 games with Saint Peter's currently riding a five-game win streak over Canisius.

Saint Peter's defeated Canisius in Buffalo on Dec. 19, 65-55, which kickstarted the Griffs' five-game homestand that concluded Saturday.

4. Last Time Against Saint Peter's
Junior guard Shaunae Brown scored a team-high 13 points and hauled in a career-high seven rebounds in the Griffs' 65-55 home loss to Saint Peter's on Dec. 19. Freshman guard Lydia Gattozzi chipped in with 12 points and sophomore guard Dani Haskell added 10 points.

Brown has scored 12-plus points in each of her last three games against the Peacocks. In the last three meetings against Saint Peter's, the Toronto native has averaged 12.3 points per game (37 points).
Senior forward Kayla Jackson logged a team-high three steals in the setback, matching her single-game best for a third time in her collegiate career. Graduate student forward Ella Väätänen and freshman guard Cheyenne Stubbs each recorded a pair of steals in the contest, matching their respective season highs.

5. Väätänen's Block Party
Graduate student forward Ella Väätänen has been hosting her own block party as of late, recording at least one block in each of her last nine games.

Her block streak is currently the longest of her collegiate career, eclipsing her previous best of five consecutive games during the 2018-19 season while playing for LIU.

Väätänen is just the second Canisius player (third instance) in the last 20 years to record a blocked shot in nine consecutive contests. She is the first player since Laura (Granzow) Buetow to register a nine-game block streak.

With a block in this evening's contest, Väätänen would become the first Golden Griffin player with a 10-game block streak since Buetow swatted away an opponent's shot in 13 consecutive games, which spanned the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.
