Five Things to Know: Volleyball Prepares for Weekend Matchups

Five Things to Know
1. Griffs Continue MAAC Play  
The Golden Griffins close its three-week homestand this Saturday and Sunday, as Canisius continues Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Blue and Gold welcome defending MAAC regular-season champion Fairfield Saturday afternoon, before entertaining Quinnipiac Sunday to close out the weekend at the Koessler Athletic Center. 

2. Series History
The Griffs trail Fairfield 15-32 all-time, with the most recent matchup in 2019. The Blue and Gold lead the all-time matchup with Quinnipiac, 16-6. The last time the two programs met was at the 2020-21 MAAC Volleyball Tournament, when Canisius defeated the Bobcats in four sets. 

3. Last Time Out   
Canisius won both of its MAAC matchups last weekend, as the Griffs played host to Siena and Marist. On Saturday, the Griffs were able to defeat the Saints in five sets. Sunday afternoon the Blue and Gold completed the weekend sweep, downing the Red Foxes in four sets. 

4. Long Records 1,000th Dig 
Junior libero Bree Long recorded her 1,000th career dig Sunday afternoon in the Griffs' victory over Marist. The Temperance, Mich., native became the 11th Golden Griffin in program history to eclipse the century mark. Long has recorded double-digit digs in 49 of her 55 career appearances for the Blue and Gold. 

5. Looking Ahead   
Canisius hits the road next weekend, as the Blue and Gold travel to face Iona and Manhattan in MAAC play. The Griffs will face the Gaels in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon before traveling to Riverdale, N.Y., to battle the Jaspers on Sunday.
