Five Things to Know
1. On the Road AgainĀ Ā
The Golden Griffins return to play this weekend at the Penn Volleyball Invitational, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Canisius will face Coppin State on Friday evening, before facing host school Penn and Bucknell Saturday inside the historic Palestra.Ā

2. Series History
The Blue and Gold are relatively familiar with their opponents this weekend, historically speaking. Canisius has faced Coppin State only twice, with both matchups ending in a Golden Griffins' victory. Canisius has faced Penn five times, the most recent happening in 2005, with the Quakers claiming all five matchups. The Griffs have squared-off with Bucknell on 13 occasions prior to Saturday afternoon, the most recent occurring in 2017. The Bison lead the series over Canisius, 10-3.Ā

3. Bree's Stellar
Play
Junior libero Bree Long continued to stuff the stat sheet for the Blue and Gold to open the new campaign last weekend. The Temperance, Mich. native posted 10-plus digs versus Wright State and Michigan State. Long has recorded double-digit digs in 43 of her 48 career appearances in a Canisius uniform. Last season, Long's 273 digs in the shortened-season led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, averaging 5.57 digs per set. Long posted double-digit digs in 12 of the 13 matches, including eight matches with 20-plus digs.

4. Last Time OutĀ Ā
Canisius traveled to East Lansing, Mich., to open the 2021 season at the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. The Griffs fell to defending Horizon League champion Wright State last Friday evening, before falling short Saturday afternoon against the host Michigan State and Western Michigan in the nightcap.Ā

5. Preseason Polls Ā
Canisius was picked third in the MAAC Preseason poll, voted on by the conference's 10 head coaches. Defending regular-season champion Fairfield was selected first with 95 points (six first-place votes), followed by defending conference tournament champion Rider with 87 points (two first-place votes) and the Golden Griffins with 74 points (one first-place vote).
