Malik Johnson Signs Pro Contract in Switzerland

Former Canisius guard Malik Johnson has signed to play professionally for Vevey Riviera Basket, also known as the Riviera Lakers – a member franchise in the Swiss LBN. Johnson is the 23rd former Golden Griffin to sign a professional contract overseas since 2006, and he is one of 13 former Canisius players currently playing professional basketball on the international stage.

Johnson started all 131 games in his Canisius career, which spanned from 2016-20. The 2019-20 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year, Johnson was a three-time All-MAAC honoree during his time in Blue and Gold and he ended his time on Main Street as one of 39 players to reach the famed 1,000-career point milestone. The Richmond, Va., native holds the school's career record for assists (644), and he holds the distinction of being the only player in program history to score more than 1,000 career points, grab more than 500-career rebounds, dish out 500-plus career assists and be credited with 200-or more career steals.

Just the third three-time team captain in program history, Johnson earned his undergraduate degree in sport management and went on to earn his master's degree in sport administration from the College.
