Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Plays to Draw at St. Francis Brooklyn

Junior forward Jen Romero netted her second goal of the season to pace Canisius in a 1-1 draw against St. Francis Brooklyn in collegiate women's soccer action Sunday at the Brooklyn Bridge Park-Pier 5.

With the tie, the Golden Griffins moved to 0-2-2 on the season, while the Terriers saw their record shift to 1-2-1.

Despite being out-shot by St. Francis Brooklyn, 4-2, the Griffs controlled possession for the vast majority of the opening 45:00 of action.

Keeping the momentum going from the first half of the contest, Canisius found the back of the net in the 48th minute of the match to open the scoring.

With an awarded free kick, freshman
Erin Weir put a perfectly placed ball over the defending Terriers, finding an open Romero. The junior played the bounce and used her left foot to tap in the point-blank shot past the diving St. Francis Brooklyn goalkeeper, Klil Keshwar.

The Terriers answered in the 65th minute when Barbara Zagonyi drove past the Canisius defenders to strike one in the top right corner of the net, off the crossbar and in.

Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan Spencer made her second consecutive start for the Blue and Gold. Spencer turned aside one shot in 110 minutes of action.

Head Coach Ryan Louis' Postgame Comments

"I really like how we came out in the second half. We had great scoring chances, especially late. We were just unable to find the back of the net. We will look to improve on our finishing as we prepare for a tough Kent State squad on Thursday."
