Five Things to Know

1. Canisius Completes Homestand Versus Little Three Rival St. Bonaventure
The Canisius men's lacrosse team completes its two-game homestand Tuesday when it hosts Little Three rival St. Bonaventure in a 7 p.m. contest at the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo.

2. Rivalry Renewed
Tuesday's contest serves as the second meeting between Canisius and the new iteration of the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse program, but the rivalry's origins date even further back. The Golden Griffins and Bonnies met a total of four times during the first four seasons of varsity intercollege lacrosse at Canisius before St. Bonaventure moved its program to the club level after the 1993 campaign. The teams split those four matchups, with the Bonnies taking the first two contests before the Griffs responded with victories in the final two matchups. Canisius was victorious in its first meeting with the resurrected Bonnies program, posting a 16-8 victory in Olean on April 9, 2019.

3)  Student Versus Teacher
Canisius head coach Mark Miyashita will face one of his mentors Tuesday as former Golden Griffins head coach and Canisius hall-of-famer Randy Mearns is in third season at the helm of the St. Bonaventure program. Miyashita played four seasons for Mearns at Canisius (2000-03), finishing his career ranked among the program's career leaders in points (145), assists (74) and goals (71). The duo also worked together in 2018, when Miyashita served as an assistant on Mearns' Team Canada coaching staff at the FIL World Championships in Israel, helping the squad claim the silver medal.

4)  Man Down No Problem for Griffs
Canisius is the only Division I program in the nation to not surrender a goal while shorthanded this season as the Griffs are a perfect 11-for-11 in man-down situations in 2021.  Canisius has successfully killed multiple penalties in all four of its games this season, highlighted by a trio of 3-for-3 performances while a man down in its three league games against Manhattan (March 20), Siena (March 27) and Detroit Mercy (April 2).

5)  Kritkausky Making the Most of Man-Up Opportunities
Graduate midfielder Dan Kritkausky has made the most of Canisius' man-up opportunities this season as he leads the MAAC and ranks ninth nationally with four man-up goals. Kritkausky enter's Tuesday's matchup having scored a man-up goal in each of the Griffs' last three contests.
