Men's Soccer Concludes Season With 4-2 Loss at Niagara

Jelldrik Dallman recorded a hat trick and Gabriel Mikina factored in two of Niagara's four goals as the Purple Eagles defeated Canisius, 4-2, at a chilly Niagara Field on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Griffins nearly scored first in the fourth minute as Federico Mereto headed a Dylan Rice corner kick but Niagara's goalkeeper, Nick Burke, made the save.

Niagara dominated possession for the remainder of the half following Canisius' early scoring chance, ultimately outshooting the Griffs by a 21-7 margin. The Purple Eagles scored all three of its first-half goals in just under 10 minutes of game action.

Mikina netted the game's first goal in the 16th minute, receiving a feed from Josh Tufino.

Dallman then scored twice in a span of 1:42, notching his first of the game on a feed from Mikina in the 24th minute. Moments later, a Canisius foul inside the 18-yard box resulted in a penalty kick, which Dallman was able to convert.

Glorie Ndagano scored his first collegiate goal in the 56th minute, cutting Niagara's lead to 3-1. Julius Schoner passed to Ndagano, who was inside the penalty box, and the junior used a pseudo-bicycle kick to give the Griffs its first tally of the evening.

Dallman countered Ndagano's goal by completing his hat trick tally eight minutes later, giving the Purple Eagles its three-goal lead again.

Canisius got its second goal of the game in the 80th minute. Following a Jo Preci throw-in, Luke Szablewski corralled Preci's throw before passing to Lachlan Beeverwho netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season and his third goal in as many games to make it a 4-2 contest.

The Griffs had a prime scoring chance in the 86th minute, trying to cut its deficit to one, but Matt Spangler's shot rocketed off the crossbar.

In the waning seconds of the match, Canisius had three shot attempts blocked by Niagara defenders, preventing a late-game goal.

Canisius goalkeeper Spencer Catalano made 10 saves on the night, establishing a career-high for the junior goalkeeper. Eight of Catalano's saves came in the first 45 minutes.

Despite Niagara outshooting Canisius, 29-23, the Griffs had an offensive presence in the second half, outshooting the Purple Eagles by eight shots, 16-8.
