1) Opening Serve
The Canisius volleyball team will close out the home portion of its 2021 schedule on Thursday night when the Golden Griffins play host to long-time rival Niagara at the Koessler Athletic Center. The match will start at 6 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

2) Series Notes
Canisius has played more matches against Niagara (106) than any other opponent in program history. The Griffs lead the all-time series, which dates back to 1975, 54-50-2. Last spring, Canisius and Niagara met three times, with the Griffs scoring two victories, including a 3-0 sweep of the Purple Eagles in the MAAC Volleyball Championship semifinal round.

3) Nelson is Coming Up Aces
Senior Hannah Nelson dropped down a total of 11 service aces last weekend in the team's home matches against Manhattan and Iona to give her 104 aces for her career. That number ranks 11th in school history. The Cary, N.C., native enters the match on Thursday with a team-high 28 service aces this season. She leads the MAAC with her 0.47 aces per set, a number which ranks her 21st nationally in that category.

4) Can You Dig It?
Junior libero Bree Long enters the Niagara match ranked second in the MAAC and 42nd in the nation in digs per set at 4.74 per contest this season. Long's 389 digs are the second-most of any player in the MAAC this season, and she needs just 58 more digs to move into the top-five on the school's career digs chart.

5) Up Next
After a weekend off, Canisius will close out the 2021 regular season on the road with three-straight MAAC matches on the road, starting Nov. 9 at Niagara. That match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., in Lewiston, N.Y. Canisius will then travel to play at Rider (Nov. 13) and at Saint Peter's (Nov. 14).
