Women’s Soccer Falls to Monmouth on Senior Day

Lauren Bruno scored in the 81st minute of the match off an awarded corner kick to lift Monmouth to a 2-1 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon from the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Hawks, who sit atop the MAAC  standings, improved their record to 6-0-1 in conference play (10-3-1 overall), while the Golden Griffins fell to 0-8-0 (0-13-2 overall) on the year.

The visiting Hawks got on the board first, when Jill Conklin scored in the 65th minute for her third goal of the season.

Canisius answered in the 72nd minute when junior
Jen Romero recorded her third goal of the campaign.

Battling against Monmouth defenders just outside the 6-yard box, Romero broke free, striking the ball into the top right of the net past the Hawks goalkeeper, Rebecca Winslow.

With less than 10 minutes left in full time, Monmouth retook the lead, which ultimately was the deciding goal in the match. After an awarded corner kick, Conklin passed the ball off to Bruno, who drove it past Canisius goalkeeper
Jordan Spencer.

Really proud of the whole team's efforts today. We were unfortunate not to get something out of that game. The girls showed grit and represented themselves and the program in the right way."
