Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls to Saint Peter’s

Goals from three different Saint Peter's players led the Peacocks (5-7-0, 3-2-0 MAAC) to a 3-1 victory over Canisius (1-8-2, 1-3-0 MAAC) in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action at the Demske Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Saint Peter's opened the scoring in the 26th minute as Jamie Davis and Brian Carvalhoso were credited with assists on Matt Ellis' tally, putting the visiting Peacocks ahead.

Two minutes later, Canisius countered Saint Peter's goal with their own as Jo Preci's cross into the penalty area was headed into the goal by Lachlan Beever. The header by Beever was a high-arching shot that was out of reach of Saint Peter's goalkeeper, Herman Wulff.

Following the halftime break, Matt Hoyt netted the eventual game-winning marker for Saint Peter's in the 71st minute.

Antonio Green added an insurance marker for the Peacocks with an 86th minute goal.

Canisius peppered Saint Peter's with 16 shot attempts, but only two were on target. Beever was credited with both shots on goal, with the latter coming in the 75th minute.

Saint Peter's Guillem Badenes Mecho, who replaced Wulff in goal in the 73rd minute, made the stop on Beever's shot

Eight of the last 10 shot attempts of the contest were off the feet of Canisius players, which spanned the final 30-plus minutes of action.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"It was a very even game. We've been in a lot of them and we've got to find a way to win. We out-shot them by a good amount. I think the difference was a couple chances they had, they put in the back of the net."

GAME NOTES
• Saint Peter's took the victory in the 32nd all-time meeting between the two Jesuit schools. Canisius still controls the series lead, 16-15-1, despite the Peacocks having won the last four head-to-head matches.
• The Griffs posted a plus-9 shot differential Wednesday, 16-7, which is the program's highest since also having nine more shots than Monmouth in Oct. 2018.
• Beever's tally was his third of the season, marking a career high for the native of Bendigo, Australia. He is now tied with Alessio Atzori for the team lead in goals.
Dylan Rice had a team and career-high four shot attempts for the Griffs.
