Softball Falls in Six Innings to Colorado State

The Canisius softball team suffered a loss in six innings to Colorado State on Sunday afternoon in San Jose, Calif., as the Rams shut out the Golden Griffins, 8-0, to close out the Blue and Gold's California road swing.
 
With the loss, Canisius moved to 5-8 on the season, while Colorado State shifted to an 8-6 record.
 
Recap
Colorado State opened the scoring early with an inside-the-park home run, courtesy of Hannah Donaldson. The Rams continued their scoring by adding five more runs, including four doubles and two triples.
 
The Griffs collected five hits in the shutout, including a double by sophomore Hannah Catallo-Stooks and a triple by redshirt-senior Lauren Castro.
 
Juniors Erin Hufford and Lindsi Dennis, along with senior Gianna Degaltini, all had a hit for the Blue and Gold.
 
Sophomore Alexis Churchill started in the circle for Canisius and went 3.1 innings, allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out two batters. Castro came in as relief and went for two innings, allowing three runs. Freshman Sarah Cantley completed the game for the Griffs, going for 0.2 innings and fanning two Rams.
 
Game Notes
• Sunday's loss to Colorado marks the Griffs' first six-inning game of the season.
• With Catallo-Stooks' double on Sunday, the Griffs have hit a double in seven of their last eight games.
• Castro has a hit in 15 of her last 16 games, a stretch that dates back to last season.
 
Up Next
Canisius will return to the diamond on March 6, when they travel to Fairfax, Va. to play in the George Mason Tournament.
