Game Recap
Marquette (2-2) used five unanswered goals in the second half to defeat Canisius, 18-11, Friday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis.

The Golden Eagles were led by Megan Menzuber and Madison Kane who combined for 10 points. Menzuber tallied three goals and two assists while Kane found the back of the net twice and assisted on three Marquette goals. Lydia Foust finished the game with a hat trick and one assist for four total points. The home team finished the contest with 40 shots, 29 of which were on goal. Marquette also won the battle on the draw, 22-9, and caused 12 of Canisius' 17 turnovers, led by four from Caroline Stellar.

Jules Horning got the start in net for the Golden Eagles, recording three saves before being relieved at half by Sophia Leva who stopped nine shots.

The Golden Griffins (0-4) were led by junior Marissa Malvaso who completed the game with four points on two goals and two assists. Malvaso also picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover in the loss. Senior Bryar Cummings, junior Miranda Malvaso and sophomore Skylar McArthur each found the back of the net twice on the afternoon. Freshman Kaitlyn Salce won five of Canisius' nine draw controls.

Junior Lauren Gilbert made her fourth start of the season for the Griffs, stopping seven shots before being replaced by Emily Van Kessel in the second half. Van Kessel made four saves.

Cummings capped off a 4-0 run by the Golden Griffins when she found the back of the net 1:28 into the second half and tied the game at 8-8. From there, however, the Golden Eagles tore off five unanswered goals in five minutes to take a 13-8 advantage with 21:08 left in the game.

The Griffs would narrow that lead to just three goals after Miranda Malvaso and McArthur scored their second goals of the contest, making the score 13-10 with 16:58 to play. Marquette would answer with a 3-0 spurt of its own to double their lead heading into the final eight minutes of action.

Following Canisius' final goal of the contest, the Golden Eagles added two for good measure to determine the final margin.

Head Coach Allison Daley's Postgame Comments
"Today we saw the team Canisius can be as we competed for an entire 60 minutes. We got behind in the first half and showed a strong comeback late in the half, however, when Marquette went on a run in the second half we couldn't quite capitalize on a couple of opportunities to stop the run. I was proud of our team's effort to continue to fight to the end."
