Majesty Brandon Named Preseason All-MAAC

After leading the Canisius men's basketball team in scoring average last year, senior guard Majesty Brandon has been chosen to the 2020-21 Preseason All-MAAC Second Team, the conference announced Thursday night on its annual preseason awards show that aired on ESPN3.

Brandon, who led the Golden Griffins with his 13.9 points per game scoring average a season ago, enters this year as one of five returners in the MAAC to boast a scoring average of 13.5 points per game or better in 2019-20. The Bronx, N.Y., native was also good for 4.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per contest in his first season on Main Street.

Brandon scored 10-or more points in 22 games a season ago, highlighted by his 30-point effort at Siena Dec. 23. That performance stands as the most points for a Canisius player off the bench in a MAAC game and it also serves as the most points for a Canisius player in his MAAC debut.

Brandon was joined on the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team by Iona's Asante Gist and Isaiah Ross, Manhattan's Warren Williams and Quinnipiac's Tyrese Williams.

In the annual Preseason MAAC Coaches Poll, the Griffs were picked to finish 10th by the league's 11 head coaches. Siena was the unanimous selection for the top spot, followed by Iona and a tie for third place between Monmouth and Saint Peter's. Manhattan was picked to finish fifth with 77 points, while Niagara (63 points), Quinnipiac (54) and Fairfield (39) were slotted in spot Nos. 6-8. Marist (36), Canisius (31) and Rider (24) rounded out the poll.
