Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fahmer’s Overtime Goal Leads Women’s Soccer Past Valparaiso

Canisius sophomore Luca Fahmer's goal with 36 seconds left to play in the second overtime period pushed the homestanding Golden Griffins to a 1-0 double-OT victory over visiting Valparaiso Sunday evening at the Demske Sports Complex. The game-winning goal, which was set-up off a crossing pass by junior Magdalen Canitia, moves Canisius to 2-2-0 on the season while the Crusaders fell to 0-5-1 with the loss.

Fahmer's goal at the 109:24 mark of the second overtime came after the Spencerport, N.Y., native was able to navigate through traffic in the box to beat Valparaiso goalkeeper Georgia Henkel with a header that found its way just under the cross bar. Canisius' scoring play was set-up after the Crusaders were whistled for a foul deep in their own defensive territory with less than a minute left in the second overtime session. Canitia sent the free-kick into the middle of the box, where Fahmer was able to redirect the ball into the goal for her second marker of the 2019 season.

The game went into overtime after the two teams played a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation, where Valparaiso held a 9-7 advantage in shots, which included a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. Canisius, however, controlled the play in the first and second overtime stanzas, as the Blue and Gold outshot the Crusaders by a 5-0 clip, with four of those shots being on goal.

Canisius senior goalkeeper Alana Rossi made four saves in the victory as she posted her second shutout of the season and the 19th clean sheet in her career. Henkel made five stops in the loss for Valparaiso.
