Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Uses Early Strike from Canitia to Blank Bonnies

Junior Magdalen Canitia scored the game's lone goal in the sixth minute and senior keeper Alana Rossi made three saves to propel Canisius to a 1-0 victory over Little-Three rival St. Bonaventure in collegiate women's soccer action Thursday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Canitia's game-winning goal, her first of the 2019 campaign, was more than enough support for Rossi and the Golden Griffins' (3-2-0) defense as they limited the Bonnies (3-4-0) to just seven shots on their way to remaining perfect at home. St. Bonaventure keeper Lauren Malcolm finished with 11 saves in goal for the visitors.

Canitia staked Canisius to a 1-0 lead just 5:58 into the contest when she sent a ball towards the goal from just outside the 18-yard box on the left side that tipped off Malcolm's fingers and into the St. Bonaventure goal.

The Griffs nearly doubled their lead in the 58th minute. The Griffs worked the ball deep into St. Bonaventure territory, leading to a pair of point-blank attempts from senior Shauna Lee and freshman Lexi Perry that Malcolm was able to turn aside before junior Alicia Larsson Vahlberg put a rebound opportunity just over the crossbar.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Comments
"Last year we got some nice wins, but we lost some games that we shouldn't have. The experience that was gained from those games where we didn't keep the other team off the scoreboard in the past has served us well this season. Additionally, we have players that can come in and capitalize on an opportunity at any given moment.

"I think that the Demske Sports Complex is becoming one of those places where it is hard to play. I that people hate to come and play here."
