Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Extends Winning Streak with Victory at Cleveland State

Canisius senior Margretta Dry scored the game-winning goal and had an assist on junior Shauna Lee's marker in the second half, and the Golden Griffin defense held its opponent scoreless for the third-straight outing, as the Blue and Gold beat Cleveland State 2-0 Sunday afternoon Krenzler Field in Cleveland, Ohio. The win, Canisius' third straight, improves the Griffs to 4-2-0 on the year, while the Vikings slipped to 2-4-2 with the loss.

After a scoreless first half, Canisius got on the board first in the game's 61st minute as Dry scored her first marker of the 2019 campaign. A little over 10 minutes later, Dry fed Lee with a pass which she converted to put the Griffs up 2-0. The goal for Lee was also her first of the season.

Canisius senior goalkeeper Alana Rossi made three saves in the victory, as she posted her third consecutive clean sheet. The Fonthill, Ontario native now has 21 career shutouts to her credit, and has not allowed a goal in the last 307:01, which dates back to the second half of the team's loss at Robert Morris Sept. 2.

The Griffs held a 17-3 advantage in shots, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Canisius also was awarded three corner kicks against Cleveland State's one.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Comments
"We have been really strong defensively, and now we have had multiple people scoring goals for us. But I believe that the culture and the attitude of our team is what makes us so successful right now."
