Game Recap
Canisius erased a five-goal deficit in the second half to earn the come from behind victory over Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara, 12-11, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action Wednesday night from the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins (2-13, 2-5 MAAC) were led by senior Jourdan Roemer and sophomore Marissa Malvaso as the two combined for eight of the Canisius 12 tallies. Roemer finished the day with five points, tying her for the program points record held by Tori Quinn (251), while Malvaso found the back of the net four times on eight shots. Freshman Megan Hoffman recorded the natural hat trick to help lift the Griffs over Niagara.

In net, sophomore Lauren Gilbert made 14 saves to earn her first career win between the pipes. Graduate student Jen Reininger was held to just one point on the offensive end but made up for it with her five caused turnovers and five ground balls on the defensive side of the ball.

Canisius held Niagara's (5-11, 2-5 MAAC) top scorers Rachel MacCheyne and Caroline Crump to just five combined points on the night, with Crump recording three goals and one assist. MacCheyne was held to only one goal in the loss.

Michelle Messenger started in net for the Purple and White, allowing 11 goals before being replaced by Maren Geiger late in the second half.

With the score 5-3 in favor of Canisius and 15:29 left in the first, Niagara sparked a 6-0 scoring run that saw Crump, Alexis Morales and Jenna Brill all find the back of the net to help lift the Purple Eagles to a 9-5 advantage at the intermission.

Niagara kept its foot on the gas in the first five minutes of the second half as they added another goal to get its largest lead of the contest, 10-5 after Shea Swartwout scored on her free position attempt. Swartwout finished the game with three goals, two of which came on free position opportunities.

From there, however, Canisius would storm back, scoring five unanswered goals. Four different Golden Griffins tallied a goal to help bring Canisius back, including two from Roemer and one from Marissa Malvaso, Miranda Malvaso and Megan Hoffman.

MacCheyne scored her lone goal of the contest on a pass from Crump, giving Niagara an 11-10 lead with over 16-minutes left to play in the game. Canisius tied the game when Marissa Malvaso scored her fourth of the game and 26th of the season at the 12:36 mark.

Four minutes later, Hoffman would score the inevitable game-winning goal as she slipped the ball by the Niagara goalie to give the Griffs a one-goal lead.

Canisius would hold Niagara scoreless over the final eight minutes of play to secure the win.

Head Coach Allison Daley's Postgame Comments
"Tonight was a huge win for us, we needed it to keep any postseason hopes alive. The comeback was something that I think we were missing in previous games just a little bit, the ability to fight back or our belief to fight back and our team was able to do that today. We gave up a run to Niagara going into the second half and then we were able to take control of that second half and really fight and believe in ourselves and execute our systematics to come out with a big win."
