Roemer Becomes All-Time Points Leader, Griffs Earn No. 6 Seed in MAAC Championship Despite Loss to Fairfield

Game Recap
Senior Jourdan Roemer became the Canisius (2-13, 2-6 MAAC) all-time points leader as the Golden Griffins fell to Fairfield (13-3, 8-0 MAAC) in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon from Fairfield, Conn.

Canisius also clinched the No. 6 seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship following Niagara's double-overtime loss to Manhattan as well as Quinnipiac's loss to Monmouth this afternoon.

With her first goal of the game, Roemer surpassed Tori Quinn (251) for the career points record, the Irondequoit, N.Y., native went on to record a team-best five points with two goals and three assists.

Joining Roemer in the scoring column were graduate students Rachel Heidenreich and Jen Reininger, both of which recorded the natural hat trick in the loss. Junior Bryar Cummings added two goals in the effort for Canisius. Sophomore Lauren Gilbert made ten saves in between the pipes for the Griffs.

As a team, Canisius dominated the draw, winning 18 of the games 25 restarts. Roemer led the team with seven draw controls followed by Reininger with six.

Fairfield had seven players tally a goal in the win, led by DeVita who recorded the natural hat trick. Brooke Gallagher, Kelly Horning, Jillian Winwood each scored twice to help the Stags remain perfect in conference play. Gallagher finished the game with a game-high six points. In the cage was Olivia Conquest, she completed the afternoon with six saves on 28 shots.

Canisius had an early 2-1 lead with less than three minutes gone in the game when Fairfield broke off a 4-0 run over the next 7:55 to take the 5-2 advantage. From there, however, Canisius would regain control and end the half on a 5-0 run, powered by two goals from Heidenreich.

Fairfield would record the second frames first tally to trim Canisius lead to 7-6, but the Griffs would quickly respond with three unanswered goals of their own to jump out to a 10-7 lead over the undefeated Stags.

The momentum would slowly switch to the Stags as they broke off an impressive 5-0 run to take a late 11-10 lead. Reininger would tie the game for Canisius with 7:03 left to play in regulation.

For the next 6:34 of game time neither team could find the back of the net until DeVita slipped the game-winner by Gilbert with less than half a minute to play.
