UMBC Strikes Early to Defeat Softball, 4-0

The Canisius softball team fell to UMBC, 4-0, on the second day of the Colonial Classic in Washington, D.C.

Game 9
UMBC (6-6) struck in the top of the first when Julia Keffler reached base on a double later scored on a throwing error. Keffler continued to show her bat in the second inning as she hit a single up the middle to score Imani Dawson, increasing the Retrievers' lead to 2-0. Winslow closed out the scoring for the game when she hit a two-run homer in the visiting half of the third inning.

Senior Denver Keller and junior Ashley Barnett were the only Griffs (0-9) to tally a hit in the losing effort. Keller roped a double in the fifth inning and Barnett recorded a single in the sixth. Sophomore Kara Paradowski tabbed a base swipe in the loss increasing her season total to nine.

Freshman Hayley Tamaro took the loss in the circle for Griffs as she allowed four runs on seven hits to go along with four strikeouts.
