Softball Swept at UNCW

Canisius dropped a pair of games Tuesday at UNCW, falling 4-0 in the opening contest before taking a 10-1 loss in the nightcap at Boseman Field in Wilmington, N.C. The wins move the Seahawks to 18-12 on the season, while the Golden Griffins fall to 1-17 in 2019.

In the first game, UNCW held a 1-0 lead through three innings and then scored three times in the third inning to win, 4-0. Canisius had just three hits in the loss, as junior Brittany Sockwellredshirt junior Lauren Castro and senior Denver Keller were the only Griffs to record a base-knock in the opening half of the doubleheader.

Sophomore Emily Nicosia (1-5) took the loss for the Griffs, allowing four runs on six hits while fanning one.

In the second game against UNCW, Canisius trailed the Seahawks 8-0 in the top of the third, but a homerun off the bat of Hannah Adamczyk increased the home team's lead to 10-0. In the top-half of the fifth, sophomore Samantha Crane pinch hit for senior Destiny Holani and hit a single into right. Junior Cassie Ho followed, pinch-hitting for senior Molly McGuire and tallying a base-knock as well. Junior Sue Vi singled to center field to score Crane, giving the Griffs their only run of the day for a final score of 10-1.

Hayley Tamaro took the loss for Canisius after she allowed seven runs on five hits to go with one walk and one strikeout in 0.1 innings. Redshirt-freshman Shea Ollison entered the circle for 2.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits while punching out one Seahawk batter.
