Eastern Kentucky Edges Out Softball, 11-9

GAME RECAP
The Canisius softball team fell to Eastern Kentucky, 11-9, on the final day of action in Wilmington, N.C. With the loss, the Golden Griffins drop to 1-15 on the season.

GAME 16
The Canisius offense exploded in the top half of the first when sophomores Kara Paradowksi and Erin Hufford each hit a single. Senior Denver Keller continued the streak for the Griffs when she got on base via a fielder's choice. Junior Brittany Sockwell then slugged a home run over the right field fence, scoring Hufford and Keller.

Eastern Kentucky got its action started in the bottom of the first when Zoe Mihalicz hit an RBI single to center field. The Coloniels had a six-run third inning, but the Griffs cut the Eastern Kentucky lead by four runs in the visiting half of the fourth inning. That inning saw a double off the bat of Hufford, along RBI singles from Sockwell and Paradowski, making it 8-7.

The Coloniels got the four runs back in the seventh thanks to a pair of RBI singles and secured the win, 11-9.

Seven Griffs tabbed a hit in the loss, with Hufford, Paradowksi, Sockwell and freshman Hannah Catallo-Stooks each recording a multi-hit game.

Redshirt-freshman Shealyn Ollison got the start in the circle for the Griffs. The San Diego, Calif., native lasted three innings, surrendering seven runs on nine hits. Freshman Hayley Tamaro went the next 1.1 innings, giving up four runs on three hits before handing the ball to sophomore Emily Nicosia for the remaining 2.1 innings.
