Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 4 Northwestern Downs Women’s Lacrosse in Non-Conference Action

Senior Selena Lasota tallied six points to lead No. 4 Northwestern to a 20-6 win over Canisius in collegiate women's lacrosse action Monday afternoon at the Pinnacle Athletic Campus in Victor, N.Y. The No. 4 ranked Wildcats improve to 4-1 overall and the season, while Canisius falls to 0-3 to start 2019.

Lasota tallied three goals and added three assists to pace a potent Wildcats (4-1) offense that saw nine players finish with multiple points. Junior Lindsey McKone and senior Claire Quinn also recorded hat trick as Northwester out-shot Canisius, 29-16, for the contest. Julie Krupnick made six save in net for Northwestern while allowing just three goals before being relieved at halftime.

Senior Jourdan Roemer scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Golden Griffins (0-3) attack. Junior Bryar Cummings also found the back of the net twice, while teammates Jen Reininger and Rachel Ryan each added a goal of their own Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Lauren Gilbert made nine saves in the cage before being replaced late in the game by freshman Shannon Maroney.

Northwestern took control of the game early on, scoring three unanswered goals, two of which came on free-position opportunities, to build a quick lead.

Reininger got Canisius on the board in the eighth minute of the contest to make the score 3-1, but the Wildcats answered with three-more goals to increase their margin to five just past the midway point of the opening frame. A free-position goal from Cummings briefly halted the 'Cats momentum, however a goal from Nell Copeland less than three minutes later sparked Northwestern to 8-1 scoring run that built its lead to 14-3 early in the second half.

Canisius responded with a 3-1 run, with goals from Roemer, Ryan and Cummings to close the gap to 15-6, before Northwestern ended the contest with five-straight goals to determine the final margin.

Head Coach Allison Daley's Postgame Comments
"It was our second nationally-ranked opponent we saw in two weeks and I think that the improvements we saw from our team, especially the intensity level that we saw to stay in the game for a while there, was really important. Looking at the stats, we beat them in the draw control and the ground ball categories, those are two things right there that show the grit and heart of our team."
