Softball Drops to Hawaii on Sunday

The Canisius softball team fell to Hawaii, 11-4, on the final day of action in Monoa, Hawaii. With the loss, the Golden Griffins drop to 0-6 on the season.

GAME SIX
Hawaii got the action started in the bottom of first when Nicole Lopez hit a two-run homer over the right field fence followed by a homer from Jenna Kumabe giving Hawaii a 3-0 lead. The Rainbow Wahine added to its lead scoring one run in both the second and third innings, followed by two more in the fourth thanks to a second home run from Lopez, making it 7-0.

Canisius tacked on two in the seventh as senior Molly McGuire singled up the right side and junior Sue Vi singled up the left, putting runners on first and second. Sophomore Kara Paradowski earned a bag due to a catcher's interference call that brought up junior Ashley Barnett who hit an RBI single to plate Vi and junior Gianna Degaltini who pinch ran for McGuire.

Sophomores Lindsay Dennis and Paradowski, juniors Brittany Sockwell, Barnett, Vi and McGuire all tallied a hit in the loss.

Freshman Alexis Churchill got the start in the circle for the Griffs. The St. Clair, Mich. native, only lasted one inning, surrendering three runs on two hits. Senior Lauren Castro went the next 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits before handing the ball to sophomore Emily Nicosia for the remaining 2.1 innings.
