Softball Falls to Hawaii on Opening Day

The Canisius softball team started the 2019 season with a loss on Saturday, as the team traveled to play in the Hawaii Invite in Monoa, Hawaii. The Golden Griffins dropped the first game of the season by the score of 4-1, Canisius is now 0-1 to start the campaign.
 
Hawaii held a 1-0 lead through three innings before Canisius freshman Hannah Catallo-Stooks hit the first homerun of her career in the top of the fourth to tie it up, 1-1. Hawaii then scored in both the fourth and fifth innings to win 4-1. Canisius had five hits in the loss, sophomore Erin Hufford tallied two hits and juniors Morgan Altman and Denver Keller each recorded a hit in the losing effort.
 
Sophomore Emily Nicosia took the loss for Griffs after she threw 5 innings with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Alexis Churchill replaced Nicosia for the final inning where she allowed two hits.

Inside the Box Score
• The Griffs had five hits in the first game on Thursday.
• Hufford recorded her first multi-hit game of the season with two hits against the Rainbow Wahnie.

Up Next
Canisius will play a pair of game on Friday, Feb. 22, starting at 5 p.m. EST, against Depaul. The Blue and Gold will close out the second day at 7:30 p.m. EST, when the team plays New Mexico.
