Women's Lacrosse Falls in Overtime Bout with Robert Morris, 11-10

Senior Jourdan Roemer and graduate student Jen Reininger tallied four points each as Canisius drops its  bought with Robert Morris, 11-10 in overtime. Robert Morris improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Golden Griffins fall to 0-2.
 
Roemer scored a team-high four goals, and Reininger added three goals and one assist in the loss. Junior Bryar Cummings added three points of her own, with two goals and one helper. As a team, Canisius out-shot Robert Morris 26-15, picked up 33 ground balls and won 15 draw controls.
 
Senior Ellen Newton started the game in-between the pipes for Canisius before being replaced by sophomore Lauren Gilbert after nine minutes of play. Gilbert made three saves in 55 minutes of play.
 
The Colonials were led by MacKenzie and Melanie Gandy who combined to tally 10 points on six goals and four assists. Sophia Eureka scored two goals, including the game-winner for Robert Morris, while netminder Katelyn Miller made 11 saves to earn her second victory of the season.
 
Robert Morris scored the first two goals of the contest before Reininger put Canisius on the board 6:23 into the game. The Colonials would answer with two more goals from MacKenzie Gandy and Eureka, making the score 4-1.
 
Reininger would complete her hat trick at the 8:38 mark to make the score 5-3 in favor of Robert Morris. From there, Roemer would score two goals in a span of 45 seconds to tie the game, 5-5. The Colonials and Golden Griffins would trade goals in the final seven-plus minutes of the first half, giving Robert Morris a 7-6 advantage heading into the break.
 
The second half started slow for both teams until Cummings found the back of the net for her first goal of the game, tying it at seven. Robert Morris would answer a minute and a half later as Mackenzie Gandy tallied her third goal of the contest to again give the Colonials the advantage.
 
With the score 8-7 in favor of the Colonials, the Blue and Gold would score two unanswered goals to earn their first lead of the game, 9-8. After Robert Morris tied it with 8:09 left, neither team would score until Melanie Gandy broke the tie and gave the Colonials a 10-9 lead with 1:12 left. Roemer would tie the game with three seconds left to send the game to overtime, where Robert Morris' Eureka scored the game-winner just 1:44 into the frame.
 
Head Coach Allison Daley's Postgame Comments
"We got out to a slow start today and had to battle our way back most of the game. I thought our effort at the end of the 60 minutes to get the ball back, score and force overtime with three seconds remaining shows the grit this team has. Unfortunately, however, we weren't able to come out with the victory."
 
Game Notes
• Wednesday's game marked the 11th meeting all-time between Canisius and Robert Morris, with the Colonials winning its first-ever game over the Griffs.
• Roemer's four goals increase her career total to 118, and the Irondequoit, N.Y., native currently sits 22 away from Ashley Gray for sixth all-time.
• Reininger has scored seven of the teams 15 goals this season.  
• Freshman Katie Smolensky recorded her first career point with an assist on Reininger's third goal.
