Hockey Shutout in Friday Matinee at AIC

Tobias Fladeby recorded a hat trick and Zackarias Skog stopped all 27 shots he faced to lead AIC to a 6-0 victory over Canisius in Atlantic Hockey Association action Friday at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.

Hugo Reinhardt added a goal and an assist while Luka Maver and Jared Pike accounted for the Yellow Jackets' (6-7-0, 6-4-0 AHA) other two tallies in the shutout victory.

Senior Daniel Urbani made 32 saves between the pipes for the Golden Griffins (2-11-0, 1-6-0 AHA), who lost their fifth straight contest with Friday's setback.

Maver opened the scoring just 3:30 into the contest while Fladeby doubled the AIC lead less than three minutes later with a power-play goal to give the Yellow Jackets a two-goal cushion just six minutes into the contest.

Fladeby added his second of the contest at the 2:57 mark of the second period to expand the Yellow Jackets' lead to three and completed his hat trick less than two minutes into the third with his second power-play tally of the contest, which came just moments after Reinhardt found the back of the net on a breakaway during the first shift of the third.

Pike closed out the scoring with an even-strength goal near the midway point of the third.

Head Coach Trevor Large's Postgame Comments
"We need to move on quickly. It obviously wasn't our best effort tonight. We need to quickly heal up and respond tomorrow. When you're playing the same team Friday and Saturday night like you do in college hockey, it's something where you have to find either find a way to carry the momentum from playing great or sometimes it's a game like this where you don't have a lot to take into tomorrow other than you need to be better in lots of different areas.

"Give all the credit to AIC. They're a championship-caliber team. They returned a large part of their lineup from last year's championship squad and they looked a lot like they did last year during tonight's game. They're one of the oldest teams in college hockey in terms of experience and we're one of the youngest, so that may have had something to do with today's result.

Growing for us means understanding what it takes when you're going up against a team like AIC that is talented and playing very well and harder than you. We need to find a way to beat them tomorrow. There're no secrets to what needs to happen in order to get a victory. We need to clean up some things defensively, especially in a 6-0 game, that's obvious. We'll do that. The staff will work hard and the players will be attentive. I know in a game where it's 6-0 with eight minutes left in the third one thing I loved was that our guys were saying all the right things on the bench. We are a together team. We are young, we're growing. They're very teachable right now, which I'm happy about. This will give us another good test tomorrow to see how we can respond after one of our worst performances of the season so far. We'll continue to grow and continue to play our youth and understand that they're going to make mistakes and we're okay with that. That's part of having a young team. We'll be better tomorrow."
