The Mountaineers out-rebounded the Griffs, 40-27.

Canisius was once again led by senior D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks as she tallied a game-high 21 points, going 7-for-15 from the floor, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Fellow senior Tiana Pugh added 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks in the loss. Sophomore guard Erika Joseph recorded a team-best seven rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Blue and Gold shot 37.0 percent from the field, including a 29.4 percent mark from behind the arc. The Griffs finished the game 12-for-15 from the free-throw line.

Patterson-Ricks was named to the Hatter Classic All-Tournament team after averaging 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in Canisius' two games.

Canisius led for the opening 3:02 of the contest before Appalachian State jumped in front thanks to a 3-pointer from Bigott. The Mountaineers saw their lead grow to as many as 16 in the first half, 38-22, following a 3-pointer from Polacek that capped off a 10-2 run.

The Golden Griffins would start a 10-2 spurt of their own that spanned the remainder of the first half and the first 2:26 of the third quarter. That run trimmed the App State lead to eight points, 42-32, the smallest it would be for the remainder of the game.

Over the next 12:28, the Mountaineers out-scored Canisius, 23-10, building its lead to a game-high 23 points. From there, the Griffs started to claw back, getting within 12 points, 69-57, with just 1:44 remaining, rattling off seven unanswered points to get within striking distance. App State quelled Canisius' comeback attempt, however, scoring the last five points in the game to determine the final margin.

Head Coach Scott Hemer's Postgame Comments
"We had some bad fouls in the first half which forced us to play a little different than we wanted to. At that point they made a run and we were never able to recover."
