Five Things to Know Before Canisius Opens the 2019-20 Season
1. Season No. 116 Starts Saturday
• The Canisius men's basketball program will officially tip-off the 2019-20 season Saturday when the Golden Griffins take on Brown in Providence, R.I. The Griffs are opening the season on the road for the fifth-straight year, and this season marks the first time the Blue and Gold have started the schedule against an Ivy League school since 2001-02 when Canisius defeated Cornell to start the year.

2. Road Dogs
• Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Canisius has 27 true road wins, which ranks the Griffs tied for 10th among all Division I schools. Last year, Canisius won nine road games, the third-straight year where the program has won eight-or-more road contests in a season.

3. For Starters
•
Canisius is 78-35 all-time in season openers (no records for 1913-14 and 1918-19). Last season, Canisius scored its first win of the season on opening night as the team beat Bucknell 82-73 in Lewisburg, Pa.

4. A Rare Trip to Rhode Island
• The Griffs are meeting Brown for the eighth time in series history on Saturday, but that game marks just the third time these two schools have played in Providence, R.I. Five of the previous seven meetings in this series have been played in Buffalo or at a neutral site, as Saturday marks the first time the Griffs have played at Brown since Jan. 3, 2006.

5. Career Start 100 for No. 1
•
Malik Johnson will become just the 10th player in school history to start 100-or-more career games when he's in the Griffs' starting line-up on Saturday afternoon. Johnson is also tied for fifth in the nation among all Division I players having made 99 consecutive starts, which is every Canisius game dating back to 2016-17.
