Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Fairfield Defeats Men’s Soccer, 1-0

Connor Knecht scored the game's lone goal in the 14th minute and Gordon Botterill stopped all
five shots he faced to lead Fairfield to a 1-0 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday at Lessing Field in Fairfield, Conn.

Knecht's decisive marker was his fourth goal of the campaign while Botterrill posted his fourth clean sheet of the campaign to lead the Stags (5-6-3, 3-3-2 MAAC) to their second straight victory and third win in their last four matches.

Junior Tom Crosbie made one save in goal for the Golden Griffins (2-13-0, 1-7-0 MAAC).

Knecht staked Fairfield to a 1-0 lead at the 13:02 mark of the contest, getting behind the Canisius defense before chipping the ball over Griffs keeper Tom Crosbie and into the net.

Freshman Julius Schoner had Canisius' best chance of the contest in the 35th minute, but his free kick from outside of the box was turned aside by a diving Botterill to keep it a 1-0 contest.

Marcus Nordgard almost doubled the Fairfield advantage just a few minutes later, but his shot attempt hit the right post and stayed out.

Don-Junior Bobe had the best opportunity for either side in the second half, but his shot with less than two minutes remaining in regulation found the frame.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
