Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Upended by Monmouth in Home FInale

Senior Troy Brady scored his team-leading fifth goal of the campaign for Canisius, but Monmouth tallied four unanswered goals to post a 4-1 victory in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo.

George Akampeke, Ryan Keenan, Robin Oswald and Ben Zakowski all scored for the visiting Hawks (2-12-2, 2-6-1 MAAC), who halted a five-game winless streak with the triumph.

Brady staked the Golden Griffins (2-14-0, 1-8-0 MAAC) to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, taking a feed from freshman Tyler Lewandowski on the right side of the box and firing a ball that Monmouth keeper Sean Murray was able to get a piece of, but still found its way into the back of the net.

The Hawks tied the game at 1-1 a little more than 10 minutes later when Akampeke headed home a cross from Zakowski.

Keenan made it a 2-1 game in favor of Monmouth just before the end of the first half, re-directing Griffin Thomas' cross into the lower right-hand corner of the net.

Oswald gave the Hawks some breathing room in the 49th minute when his shot from just outside the top of the box beat Canisius keeper Tom Crosbie to the lower right-hand corner of the net to increase the Monmouth margin to 3-1.

Zakowski closed out the scoring in the 65th minute with a free-kick goal from 20 yards out.
